Silver Wing Final Recap

The Silver Wing tournament is the first official Wargaming tournament and it is all about the skill of brave pilots who dare to fly into the clouds. The second edition of the tournament turned out to be a great success, with a lot of daring pilots picking up the glove and preparing great tactics and manoeuvres. There were a total of 14 teams who signed up for the tournament in this single elimination tournament. After many battles fought in the clouds as well as in between trees, two teams emerged to fight for 1^st place: Pixyl’s Praetorians (PP) and Zero Wing (ZW). Third place was taken by two teams: captain krunch and the cereal killers and United Spuds of America.

The Pixyl’s Praetorians, an established World of Warplanes team, was considered the favourite to win the final match against Zero Wing, who had just entered with eSport scene. It turned out that Zero Wing did not want to give away the Silver Wing Champion title lightly and put up an amazing fight.

The teams fought the final in a “best of 5” mode where the team who scores three victories wins. Both teams were determined to win and gave a great show of planning and team task execution. Pressure was applied by destroying ground targets as well as great aiming and manoeuvring skills, pushing the planes to the limit with stalls high in the clouds as well as nose-diving, and barely avoiding the ground.

The score reached 2:2, with each battle being a close call for one team or the other. The final, most important battle turned out to be the best show of the stream. The battle took place on the Plateau map and the teams were both pumped with adrenaline. ZW took the head-on middle approach, burning engines to get high into the clouds, leaving the Tier II Ao 192 to take out ground targets. They did not have to wait long as PP lit up their radars while attacking ground targets on the east, moving up north towards the ZW base. All six Tier VI planes from ZW moved back in the general direction of their base where more and more ground targets were sending distress signals.

The planes moved into a wild dogfight almost directly above the ZW base, going down fast in tight circles chasing each other’s tails. Even when performing manoeuvres that tight, bullets were still landing on targets and within just half a minute from the start of the actual fight, there were only five planes left above the battlefield.   The ground got very close extremely fast and the remaining five planes were mostly damaged, flying into the canyons and looping evading bullets being sprayed all over the sky. The situation may have seemed a bit better for ZW at that point, as they had three planes left, but they were severely damaged in the disadvantage of being the prey in this chase.

As often happens in these situations, the prey did not manage to become the hunter, leaving only a single Tier II plane against two Tier VI planes from PP. The battle resulted in a great victory for PP!
