The Silver Wing tournament series has exploded with signups since the Open Beta of World of Warplanes started. Even though we raised the bar to tier VIIs, you managed to band together and send 35 teams into the skies!
The Silver Wing: Lucky Number Seven tournament stream started at 19:30 CEST (GMT+2). At the beginning of the quarterfinal, there were a total of eight teams. During this stream we saw well-known veterans such as Pixyl’s Praetorians (PP) as well as newcomers such as The Guys Who Dated Your Sister (TGWDYS). We assume that they all dated 0xyde’s sister, as he was the only eSports team member who has a sister.
The tournament live stream was opened in the Arctic Region by the veteran Flying Ducks (FD) team facing the abovementioned TGWDYS. It appeared the FDs were a bit overprotective of their sisters, ripping their opponents apart in the first game without a single loss. The second game started rather badly for the FDs, but due to a very unfortunate collision in the TGWDYS team, the ducklings won again, which gave them a 2:0 victory in this match!
The second match of Zero Wing vs. die chaotische spaß Elite took place above the Cloudy Bay. ZW started the first game by applying pressure on the enemy team by destroying ground targets and moved to score a flawless victory just two minutes later. The second game was a great display of evasion tactics by DCSE pilots, but once again ZW used superior attack coordination which lead to a crushing 2:0 victory!
After that match, we managed to get Cheaterhater for a live, quick interview! He applauded the skill level of the best European teams such as PP and stated that in his opinion, players’ skills and great tactics are equally important in World of Warplanes tournaments. Remember pilots, even the pros say that in the skies you can’t be a lone wolf - you have to play as a team!
The third place match between FD and die chaotische spaß Elite was a great show! The first game engagement on the Plateau started on extremely high altitudes above the first cloud levels. The teams quickly went spiralling down at a roaring speed. Aircry gave a great example of how to dodge enemy fire when being outnumbered, but even that didn’t save his team from a loss on Superiority. The second game didn’t go as well in the sky for the FD, as their planes got taken one by one, but thanks to the Superiority they gained by destroying ground targets, they managed to win the match and stand on the podium in 3rd place!
Iceman320 was the second captain invited to a quick interview during the stream. He was happy to see so many teams in the tournament and proud of their third place!
The final match of the day between PP and ZW brought a lot of fans to sit in front of their screens. The two Bald Eagles of World of Warplanes Open Beta tournaments had to attract a lot of attention! The first battle went to PP after a relatively quickly concluded dogfight. In the second game, ZW had a bad start, leaving them in a 1 vs. 3 situation from which even the amazing dodging manoeuvres didn’t save them! The game went to 2:0 in favour of PP, putting insane pressure on ZW not to leave them at a rather bad looking 3:0. It’s worth noting that after a plane collision during the match, both teams posted excuses in the battle chat expressing their lack of appreciation for kamikaze tactics and bad aiming.
In the break after the second game, our jolly casters, Bump and Berbo entertained the World of Warplanes fans with their rather unimpressive French skills, which were nowhere near as good as their streaming skills.
The third battle was a surprise with ZW fielding two IL-10s! The ground attack planes were really hard to take down, but because ZW split into two groups, PP managed to quickly take down the first two to go straight for the other pair whilst typing “ULIULIULI” in the battle chat! Sharpneli did give up at that point and made a great comeback, taking down two of the PP planes and pushing his own plane to the edge of its power. At that point, however, the battle was basically decided and PP have once again proven to be the yet again unbeaten European World of Warplanes champions, winning the final with 3:0!
Pixyl’s Praetorians Captain ExtincE spared a few of his precious minutes to speak to us as at the end of the stream. He said that the FDs were the hardest opponent of the tournament and that he is not afraid of the “ULIULIULIs”, who are coming to World of Warplanes. When asked about his favourite plane, he replied that it’s the IL-10, because “The IL-10 has a sick amount of firepower and it’s fun to play with. […] It’s a painful grind to use it and when you get it stock [it is painful to grind] as well, but it’s amazing later”. We also learned that World of Warplanes is a great family show, as ExtincE’s family was watching him play live!
Thanks for reading and watching. See you during the next Silver Wing!
