Pilots!
Now that Update 2.0 has been released, there's a new class of aircraft in the sky – Bombers. These sturdy high-flyers will let your cruise at high altitudes while anti-aircraft shells ineffectually burst around you, before you drop your destructive payload onto the enemy's ground installations. If that sounds good, then this is the class for you.
These mighty new machines don't have to be researched and bought, however. At some point in the future, they will be available for Gold in the tech tree as premium aircraft. For now, you can simply earn them. From 11 October until 1 November, daily combat missions will reward you with loot crates, which contain components of the three new bombers:
Bristol Blenheim Mk. IV (early mod.), British Tier III Bomber
High speed and high effective altitude make this bomber a nightmare to intercept for most fighters. The rear gunner with a 7.7 mm machine gun that covers anyone trying to attack from above also helps deal with an pursuing foes.
Be careful of enemies attacking from below. You will not be able to hit them with your rear gunner, so you should always be flying at an altitude which keeps you out of range or maneuvering in such a way that they come into your area of fire.
Four 250 pound bombs let you easily destroy any ground targets and the reload time is not very long.
Douglas A-26B Invader, American Tier VI Bomber
This Bomber has surprisingly powerful machine guns. Defensive turrets with twin 12.7 mm machine guns cover your back and have a long range. This lets you repel attacks and even destroy enemy planes with low survivability or those that have already taken damage.
Six frontal machine guns can also inflict considerable damage to anybody foolish enough to get in your way, especially those that don't have the speed to escape your effective firing range.
The bombs of this beauty weigh 1600 pounds and are dropped in groups of four, which lets you cover a significant area and cause huge damage to your targets.
Myasishchev RB-17, Soviet Tier VIII Bomber
This plane is quick and flies high, as well as having a rather impressive bombing payload.
While each bomb may only weigh 100 kg, you drop six of them with each attack, which lets you cover a large area and compensate for the relatively small size of each bomb.
The defensive turret with a mighty 23 mm gun covers the tail of this plane and causes a great deal of damage at high ranges. So while it may not cover the greatest area, the range and quick firing speed of the turret let the RB-17 repel pursuing fighters. And if that doesn't work, you can always retreat to higher altitudes.
Aside from parts for these new bombers, you can also find some great and rare prizes in your loot crates:
