Special: Birth of a Star

This weekend we want to celebrate the birth of a very special star. One that, to any aviation fan, shines bigger and brighter than any of the stars in the night sky or on the Hollywood walk of fame combined. Of course, we are talking about the German sensation that is the Messerschmitt Bf 109! Often copied but never equalled, this beast of an aircraft has set record after record and became, for good reason, the emblematic figure of WWII- era military aviation. On this day, 29 May 1935, an impressive 80 years ago, the first Messerschmitt 109 prototype took off for its first flight. Obviously, we wouldn’t be proper aviators if we didn’t commemorate this defining moment, which is why we’re holding the following special today.
