Pilots,
As 2013 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the outgoing year and look back at some of the highlights that we have experienced together this year.
To make this trip down memory lane a bit more celebratory, we decided to spice things up with a little boost for our community that you’ll be able to benefit from all weekend long.
Find out right here about the experience boost that we had announced as part of our End of the Year Festivities, and read on for our 2013 Retrospective.
Double experience for all battles
Twice the experience for all tiers, all planes, all battles – all weekend long!
The special will run from Friday 20th December at 07:00 until Monday 23rd December at 06:30 CET (GMT+1).
The year 2013 has certainly been an eventful one for all the Wargamers out there. Still fresh in everybody’s memory, the release of World of Warplanes not too long ago was undoubtedly the highlight of the past 12 months for our worldwide Wargaming community. Seeing the game go live after an extended testing period and welcoming thousands of pilots to our skies has been a great pleasure for all of us.
However, it’s not just the launch of a new game that gives us reason to look back on the past year with pride. World of Tanks continued its path to greatness by shattering one record after another and claiming, among other accomplishments, the Golden Joystick award for the second time in a row. With new servers launched in South-East Asia and Korea, more and more people joined the global phenomenon to enjoy fierce 15 vs. 15 armoured warfare action. Thanks to a steady stream of new versions this year (eight in all), PC-tankers had a lot of content to keep busy throughout 2013 and are already looking forward to the future.
Speaking of the future, Wargaming surprised the gaming world at E3 in June, unveiling World of Tanks XBOX 360 Edition as our first console title. The Open Beta is by now well on its way and growing player numbers show that Wargamers are eager to storm the battlefields in their tanks on consoles as well. Just like you guys out there, we also can’t wait to expand our portfolio of games to a new platform.
eSports have also made another big step forward in terms of popularity this year. The growing appeal of competitive gaming propelled us to launch our own Wargaming.net League in February, which is now in its third season already. The season two finals during gamescom this year saw a large number of international teams duke it out for the spoils of a grand prize pool of 100,000 Euro. Online tournaments such as the ‘Super 6’ for World of Tanks or the ‘Silver Wing Cup’ for World of Warplanes continue to captivate the attention of ever-growing audiences during their many live streams on Twitch.tv.
While all of these accomplishments are great, we’re especially proud of what we have achieved this year as a company. By growing our network of branches to 19 locations all around the world, we further strengthened our position in the rapidly expanding Free-2-Play MMO market. Thanks to your continuous support, we were able to give back to the community by sponsoring educational and charitable causes. Most recently, your generosity brought about a 100,000 Euro donation to War Child UK on behalf of thousands of donors in our Wargaming community.
Last but not least, 2013 also marked the year of our 15th anniversary as a company. It’s been a long road from our humble beginnings as a two-man enterprise in Minsk in 1998 to the globe-spanning corporation that we are today. We are happy to have been given the opportunity to grow alongside our fans and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your long-term support.
Let’s keep it up and make sure that 2014 is even more exciting, Pilots!
