When Hitler ordered ‘Eagle Day’ as part of ‘Operation Adlerangriff’ (Eagle Attack), he was looking for a massive, coordinated short-term-strike that was supposed to sweep away British aerial defences. However, instead of dealing the finishing blow, the attacks of 13 August were repelled, sending a clear message to Axis forces that Britain was willing to defend herself against any aggression.
