Humble greetings and salutations, pilots!
It is my great pleasure to introduce myself as the new European Community Team member for World of Warplanes. Bringing with me a strong background in the industry, I’m nonetheless honoured to have been selected to join the Wargaming.net team here in Paris. In particular, I am very proud to be able to work on such an exciting and exhilarating project as this, our forthcoming release.
In order to kick things off at the appropriate octane level, I had the opportunity to take a trip out of town last weekend with one of my colleagues. We went to visit the ‘Meeting Aérien - Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis’ at the Aérodrome de Cerny-La Ferté Alais; a large air-show featuring all manner of historical aircraft on display and in flight.
We couldn’t have had better weather for it. In fact, if anything, it was almost too good… even when armed with sun spray! The amazing weather meant that the general turnout at the event was incredible. With over 150 static aircraft to fawn over in the morning and then a truly spectacular display of roughly 100 planes in flight throughout the afternoon, this was a very a memorable day!
I could easily wax lyrical about the various aircraft on show for hours but I will settle for talking about some of the numerous highlights. Of note was a polished silver Lockheed P-38L Lightning on display; it has been demilitarised and is the only one in Europe. We also saw the synchronised flight of six Focke-Wulf Fw 44 “Stieglitz” aircraft, including a solo acrobatic display by the resident Fw 44 from the ‘Musée Volant Salis’. Particularly dramatic was the Pearl Harbour segment which came complete with its own explosions! We also had the opportunity to see a Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIV and two Hawker Sea Furies, the latter of which performed a “voltige” (an aerobatic display) that was almost as impressive as the Red Devils, who appeared later in the evening flying four Siai Marchetti SF-260.
All in all, this was a fantastic experience to begin what will hopefully be a beautiful friendship…
Good luck and good hunting, and perhaps I’ll be seeing some of you in the skies!
