When after spending a week or so with „World of Tanks“, I‘ve found out about „World of Warplanes“ I felt happy as a kid receiving lollipop. But then… You know, I thought about what I love so much in „World of Tanks“ and it‘s obviously the balance of things.
Tank control and tank combat is relatively simple to get acquainted with and it‘s perfect for keyboard and mouse tandem. Technically it is almost arcade style experience, while actual combat requires many hardcore skills.
I think the core of real Tank battles serves as a crucial component to add hardcore feel to the game, since in order to succeed you have to know at least the basics about ammo types and usage, armor and specific tank models.
While it‘s really easy to jump into pea shooting MS–1 and roll into battle, in order to be successful you must study on quite hardcorish levels, memorize important details about when to hit, where to hit and how to behave while engaged in combat with one or multiple enemies.
Connecting truly hardcore and relatively simple mechanics in one game is something everyone working with MMO‘s dreams to achieve and I personally think that WoT nailed it perfectly. I also think, that tanks them self helped to achieve such result. And now — we have warplanes.
At least 6 angles to move, 6 angles to watch, high speed combat with no options to sit in an ambush or choose meaty heavies. While tanks have a few weak spots, most airplanes are practically made of them! It’s definitely going to be hardcore on many levels.
