Nobody could have predicted that a Free to Play MMO about tanks would do so well, yet World of Tanks turned out to be a massive success story. So it was only natural that the developers would wheel out this potent formula once more, and the result is the upcoming World of Warplanes. We had a chat with the game's Producer, Anton Sitnikau, to discuss just how hardcore this game is going to be, what's the best way to fly the planes in the game, how many players will be in each match, and more. Read on for the full interview.
GameSpy: What is the biggest lesson you've learnt from World of Tanks that has helped you build World of Warplanes?
Anton: World of Warplanes will represent a mixture of arcade flyer and simulator. We'll deliberately make the controls simple, as we want our players to focus on the battle itself but not on operating the aircraft. However, behind the simplified controls and unobtrusive interface are rather deep game mechanics, that will determine the flight model and damage system.
GameSpy: World of Tanks didn't have any cockpit view - will Warplanes?
Anton: Players will be able to switch to a sniper mode that will in some way resemble the cockpit view, but it will be used to increase the accuracy of fire, not just to show how operating of the plane looks like from inside of the cabin.
